This image shows an ulceroproliferative malignant melanoma arising from a pre-existing pigmented nevus in an elderly patient.

 Malignant melanoma is an aggressive skin cancer that may develop from a long-standing melanocytic nevus, especially when there is rapid growth, ulceration, bleeding, or change in color.

 The patient underwent surgical excision.
